Enhancing Connectivity at Khorixas VTC: Internet Cabling and Data Poles Installation
In today’s digital era, robust internet infrastructure is essential for effective learning and administration. Recognizing this need, the newly built VTC in Khorixas by the Namibian Training Authority undertook a project to install comprehensive internet and data infrastructure. The project was executed by Panduleni CC, with support from Engelhardt Gaeb from Darsy Investment CC and Herold R Gabohumise from Yana Investments CC.
Project Scope and Objectives
The project aimed to establish reliable and high-speed internet connectivity across six buildings at Khorixas VTC, including the administration block, workshops, and the guard house. The primary objective was to create a robust infrastructure capable of supporting the VTC’s educational and administrative activities.
Project Execution
Administration Block
Cat6 Cabling
- Server Room as Data Hub: The server room served as the base and data hub for the entire building.
- Cable Layout: All cables were pulled from west to east to cover the furthest points in the building.
- Wireless Access Points: Additional cables were installed for four wireless access points to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Data Poles: A total of 45 cables were pulled to support nine data pole installations.
Trunk Installations
- Materials Used: Two types of trunks were utilized—PVC and metal.
- Installation Details:
- Main Reception: PVC trunks were used for interior routing, with metal trunks at the entry points.
- Room Specifications:
- Rooms 1-3: 6 double metal and 4 PVC drop-ins.
- Rooms 4-5: 1 double metal and 4 PVC drop-ins.
- Rooms 8-9: 2 double metal drop-ins.
- Room 10: 2 double metal drop-ins.
- Room 11: 4 double metal and 1 PVC drop-ins.
- Room 12: 2 PVC drop-ins.
- Server Room: 1 double metal drop-in.
- Room 13: 1 double metal and 1 PVC drop-ins.
- Room 14: 1 double metal and 1 PVC drop-ins.
Labeling
- All data points were meticulously labeled on both ends—point and patch panel
